今日から香港は旧正月が始まりました。
街はすっかり正月ムード☆
Chinese (Luna) New Year has just started from today!
The downtown is full of New Year's mood everywhere.
そこで本日は、香港のお正月の特徴について、私が知る限りですが
お伝えしたいと思います(^▽^)/
So today, I'm going to talk about characteristics of CNY(=Chinese New Year),
"What is special for Hong Kong's new year days".
日本と違ったり、不思議と思う文化がたくさんあるかと思いますが、
楽しんで読んで頂けると嬉しいです。
It may be totally different from Japan,
and also it may sound surprising to you,

①梅の花と花市
Plum Tree and Flower Market
旧正月になると、街のショッピングモールのいたるところで見かけられるのが
梅の花ですね。桜じゃないですよ（笑）
When CNY starts, what you can see everywhere in shopping mall in city, is "Plum Tree."
It's not cherry blossoms.
ヴィクトリアパークで開かれる花市も、大晦日の夜遅くまでオープンし
お正月、家や店に飾る色とりどりの花が売られています。
The flower market @Victoria Park also opens until late in the CNY eve night,
selling beautiful colorful flowers which are going to decorate house and stores.

②赤い服を着る
Wear Red Clothes
お正月前は、香港のショーウインドーは赤い服で溢れ返ります。
身に着けるものは下着まで新調したりするみたいです。
また、正月中に靴を買うのはいけないとのことで、靴屋さんはお正月前に安売りをするところもあるとか。
Before CNY, showcases in Hong Kong stores become full of RED CLOTHES.
People here seem get all the new things to wear including underwear.
Also, I heard it's not good to buy new shoes during CNY, so shoe shops do sales before holiday starts.

③香港も大掃除をします
Hong Kong also has a general house cleaning day.
正月に入る前には、家庭でも大掃除をします。
福が逃げるとして、お正月中はゴミを出すのも本当はあまり良くないそう。
とはいっても、生ゴミも家に置いとくのもイヤですよね（笑）
Before CNY starts, at each home, people do house cleaning.
Because it's like we letting good fortune away, it's not good to even take out garbage during holidays. But it doesn't feel good to keep our rubbish at home, does it?

④家族で集まる
Family Gathering
旧正月は1年でも大事な家族のイベント。家族の結びつきが固い香港では
度々親戚などの集まりがあります。きっと日本よりもずっと多いですね。
CNY is one of the most important family event throughout year.
Hong Kong has a culture of strong bonds between family, so they often have family gathering with relatives. Maybe, it's much more often than in Japan.
大晦日の夜には、最後に食べる食事として1回。
正月が来たら、初めに野菜だけをつかった食事で一緒にスタート。
翌日、正式な食事（お肉も含めて）を一緒に囲むとして、ディナーも1回。
The day before CNY, we gather once for "last meal together."
When CNY comes, we starts with vegetarian dish meal.
And next day, we also have another dinner as "official usual meal together" including meats.
私が嫁いだ香港の家庭は、計3回も連日一緒に食事をします。
かなり伝統的な考えの家庭ですね。
My Hong Kong family (I married to a HK man), they eat together 3 times in a row just like this. Very traditional culture they respect.

⑤利是（ライシー）を配る
Give Red Pocket called "Lai Shi"
Red Pocketですね。日本では子供にしかお年玉はほとんど渡しませんが、
香港では大人から大人にも渡してしまいます（笑）
It's so called Red Pockets. In Japan, we usually only give to children,
but in Hong Kong, they give from adults to adults, as well lol
大人→子供、会社の上司→若手の社員、既婚者→独身者、マンションの住人→セキュリティスタッフへ・・・と、本当に頻繁にライシーをあげるのです。
Adults to Kids, Company boss to junior staffs, Married person to singles, and residents to security staffs @apartment ...
They do give Lai Shi pretty often.
なので、中身は20～50ドルくらい。日本円で500～1000円以内ですね。
もちろん社長から社員はもう少し多額が入っていてほしいですけどね（笑）！！
Therefore, only 20 - 50 HKD in the envelop, which is within 500 - 1000 JPY.
Of course, we expect more than that amount from company president to employees, haha!!
以上、香港の旧正月の文化でした。

最初来たときは不思議なことがいっぱいだと思いました。
How was that, everyone?
I've been living in Hong Kong for 4 years now,
but when I came here first time, a lot of things were very special for me and surprised me.
特に数駅離れた主人の実家へ3日連続で帰ることや、
赤い下着をつける文化があると知った時、
大人でも大人にお年玉をあげるとわかった時です（笑）
Especially when the time I knew
"I need to go back to my husband parents' home 3 days in a row, which is a couple of stations away"
"People have culture to wear red color underwear"
"Adults need to give red pockets to adults."

What is special culture of your countries or hometown?
I think everywhere must have some special habits and customs, which is very unique to the people from other areas in the world.
